Featured Artist: Paul Cadden

For those of you who enjoyed the piece on Louis K. Meisel's gallery in SoHo: A man of few words, Paul Cadden answered a few short questions in this follow-up to our original story on Photo-realism. His graphite and pastel works are part of the Hyper-realism movement that followed Photo-realism in the early 2000s. Enjoy!

FF: Let's start with how you became interested in Hyper-realism.
Paul: By looking at the works of Denis Peterson.

FF: Is there an artist or group of artists that became your inspiration and lead you on this path?
Paul: The artists from the ...

Featured Artist: Pete Harrison

Today we feature Pete Harrison and his work. Take a break, pour yourself an espresso, top off your coffee, crack open another Red Bull or break out the china and sip on high tea... & let's see what Pete has to say to all y'all (just saw the Hatfields and McCoys)

Enjoy!

FF: How would you describe your art and design style?

Pete:
My design style I guess at the moment you could say it was photo manipulation with lighting effects, I use similar elements and the way I work that now people recognise a piece and can put ...

Featured Artist: Trish Biddle

If I had to pick one art movement that has fascinated me since my first days in art school they would have to be Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Yeah I know (just one) but I can't have one without the other. If you look around neither can our contemporary architects and artist friends. You can't escape it. It's everywhere: buildings, movie posters, smart phones. People are naturally attracted to the lines both rigid and flowing from these period. When I first had the pleasure of seeing and later working with Trish I felt that natural attraction ...

FF: How would you describe your gallery’s mission and vision?

Featured Artist: Bogaert

I met Bogaert many summers ago in Hollywood while visiting a friend. At the time Bogie was working on his Music Series. His flat was a bare bones bohemian art loft with only the essentials: every color imaginable in tube form, canvases, brushes, cigarettes, an amazing coffee maker that looked like it came from outer-space, and a 'fridge made for one. With The New Latinaires in the background I got to see how "the magic" happened. Bogie is no longer in Los Angeles, once the wind changed he blew with it but he continues to paint and shares some of ...

Change is Good!

As a water sign I am usually keen on the tidal forces that pull on us during this time of the month and that feeling of change, good and bad, that's in the air. With the full moon rising and a eclipse on the horizon, this issue of SPARK! is dedicated to the moon, change, time and the forces of nature (or Photoshop ;)

, interior designer, brings us these perfectly distressed images:

Chad Wys uses his talents to help time and take us away to another reality with his Nocturne series:

Album Art

When I was in high school, I in inherited the old family hi-fi. We had upgraded the sitting room's entertainment center and in the middle of it was a state-of-the-art Sony component system that included a CD-player, a turntable, an equalizer, an amp, a stereo tuner, and a dual cassette deck. Back then vinyl was king and portables (like the yellow sports Walkman in my school bag) were gaining ground quickly. My local Record Store was walking distance and it was my happiest place on earth.

We all have our favorite songs, our favorite albums, but I also had ...

Colorful SPARK!

I never really considered myself an illustrator, even though my first foray into the art world was drawing. I even came close to posting some of my pseudo-anime pencil sketches from "back in the day" to prove my point. Sure I have tons of coffeeshop cartoons and down-time doodles but an illustrator, I am not. When inspiration strikes however, I am always prepared. Professor Brown's habit of always carrying a Pilot Rolling Ball (Precise) V5 has come in handy while waiting for friends and my never-on-time younger brother. I even started carrying what my colleague calls an  "idea book ...

Diego Rivera at MoMA

Most of you have probably figured out via context that I call the City of Angels home, always have and plan on it for a long time. But... ever since I first took a bite out of The Big Apple, part of me decided that I could spend a couple of years there. Now, if I could put down a tent and live inside MoMA, I might be convinced to stay.

If you live in, near or visited NYC, you most likely (if you didn't please lie to me) spent some time inside MoMA. The last time I was ...
